Communism and feminism in Spain (1960-1982)
Abstract
In the 1960s feminism was considered by communism as a competitor when it came to incorporating women to party politics. The end of the Spanish dictatorship and the transition to democracy made it necessary for communists to collaborate with feminist movements by incorporating the specific problems of women into communist discourse; however it was also done in order to avoid losing political power and women's membership. Nonetheless, it is true that communist mass media helped to spread specific feminist demands.Downloads
