Rethinking the canon: the absence of women in the historiography of the Spanish Silver Age
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to point out the absence of women in the canon of the Silver Age, built by the Spanish historiography of the last decades. After explaining the origin of the concept “Silver Age” and its process of consolidation as a historiographical category, I enumerate and argue what reasons explain the exclusion, from this category of analysis, of the Spanish intellectuals, writers, artists or scientists who developed their work during the first third of the 20th century. Finally, I propose the need to review this canon, until now monopolized by male creators, to build a new, more inclusive one, in which female creation is also represented.
