Abstract

This paper provides information to know the state of “virtualization” of activities related to entertainment in free time, understanding by “virtualization” the displacement to the Internet of tasks that were previously performed outside of that environment. The results of a survey to a representative sample of Internet users of Spain, corroborate that, to identify those who make use of the Internet for entertainment, distinctions according to age, civil status and occupation (studies vs. work) are still relevant. To these variables, new ones have been added in order to check their incidence on the Internet resource for recreational activities. The “self-description as internet user” emerges in this research as a new determinant of the use of the Internet.
