Communicative reaction or proaction: A diachronic analysis of parliamentary interventions on migration

Keywords: parlamentary discourse, refugees, diachrony, quantitative methodology, qualitative methodology, corpora

Abstract

From the perspective of corpus linguistics, this paper proposes a quantitative/qualitative methodology to perform a critical and diachronic análisis of parliamentary communication on migratory phenomena (specifically, about refugees). After the introduction (in section 1), section 2 describes the basic concepts by Zapata-Barrero and Wodak, with which the analytical method is constructed. Section 3 describes the texts, tools and phases of the article. In section 4, the model is tested by examining the collocations around the node REFUG* in the course of three historical phases of the Spanish Congress of Deputies. The article concludes by confirming the effectiveness of the proposed analytical model.
