Cinema´s consolidation as a main part of programming at the beginning of television in Spain (1958-1975)
Abstract
Emission of entertainment contents was the main guideline of the first channel´s of Televisión Española (TVE) programming during Francoism. Non-serial fiction (feature films) had a remarkable role. This work proposes to analyse the role of cinema in TVE between 1958 and 1975 through a methodology based on the study of TV´s schedules as a primary source. Thus, is possible to analyse how film programming in TVE took a very remarkable place of schedules, what it means that cinema was one of the most interesting contents for the audiences. Moreover, through analysing these emissions is intended to launch a new perspective of the relation between cinema (and its industry) and the arrival of TV in Spain. Three main phases of feature films emissions in television during Francoism have been defined: 1958-1963, 1964-1969 and 1970-1975.
