Alternative journalism in Mexico, a story of resilience and constant adaptation

Abstract

This article has the objective of visiting some of the journalistic exercises that go against the current in Mexico, whose narrative opposes it to the predominance of pro-government discourses, the spectacularization of news and misinformation. Based on the concept and characteristics of alternative communication, it offers an overview that, without being exhaustive, shows the history of journalism that is on the side of citizens, that gives voice to underrepresented communities and that is committed to social change and the respect for fundamental rights, being freedom of expression the first of them. It also makes a critical review of the challenges faced by alternative to the mainstream media, in adverse contexts as the Mexican.
