The weaknesses of the Professional Collegiation of Journalists in Spain
Abstract
This article discusses the crossroads at which the Professional Journalists’ Colleges are currently located in Spain. The non-compulsory of the Collegiation and the fact that Journalism does not constitute a profesión entitled, leaves the collegial entity in a situation of weakness that makes it impossible for it to develop the main purposes entrusted to it by the Law. To examine the issue, the Deans' opinion were sought. The results show that there is not exist the necessary clarity on certain issues: field of activity, academic level of professionals, administration of Ethics and Deontology... It is also noted that the Associations of Journalists continue to star in the space that should already be for Professional Colleges.
