The Civil War on the perception of German literature from 1936 to 1939. Between life and literature
Abstract
The Spanish Civil War has been a very important issue in Germany, already from the very beginning of the war. In German literature it has been a recurrent theme by authors of different ideological trends. This study deals with works published during the years of the armed conflict. First, a representative set of titles of publications is presented. As a whole, they make up a varied body of works moving between the limits of the novel and the reportage. Secondly, the study of an illustrative selection of six of them is presented and the representativeness of testimonial works by authors who supported the Republican side is shown.
