Islamophobia in the newspaper: from the opinion section to the public opinion
Abstract
The aim of this research is to study a possible Islamophobic discourse in the written media through an analysis of opinion articles from generalist newspapers such as ABC and El País, around two jihadist attacks committed in 2015: Charlie Hebdo y el 13-N. The article resorts to a methodology of quantitative and qualitative discourse analysis about 217 opinion articles that are submitted to a coding sheet of own elaboration with 12 variables. The main results show that in the opinion articles, of both newspapers, there are Islamophobic arguments established in the colonial discourses and in the clash of civilizations.Downloads
