The boldness of "Cadena SER" before the Francoist radio censorship: ‘Hora 25’ and ‘Matinal’
Abstract
Radio censorship, which had been present since the early days of the medium in Spain, back in the 1920s, settled permanently in our country, along with mechanisms to control national and international information, from the end of the Spanish Civil War until 1977, two years after the end of Francoism. This paper describes the situation of the radio during that period and explains which were the reasons that led Cadena SER, the most listened-to radio station in Spain, to defy the authorities with programs -amongst them ‘Hora 25’ and ‘Matinal’- that, albeit the ban, included items of news.Downloads
