Communication research in Latin America: An historical approach (1950 - 2016)

Abstract

The current research has as main objective conduct a chronological overview on communication research in Latin America, identifying key milestones and stating whether epistemologically has been a “Latin American School of Communication” The approach used is the critical review of academic literature, organizing structured contributions in decades and collating findings in relation to other research of matter. The main results of the study emphasize that there have been periods of independent epistemological development, even though there is no standardization in production and scientific diffusion. The integrative role played associational efforts of Latin American research also highlights.
