Informative treatment of the Francisco Fernando murder in the national and galician press
Abstract
During the First World War, the Spanish press broke up into Pro-Allied and Germanophiles despite of the national government instructions of maintaining neutral. The attempt which caused the death of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne the 28th of June in 1914 caused the worst conflict ever happened in Europe until that moment.
Consequently, it could be interesting to know if the Spanish informative coverage of that murder already foreshadowed the First World War´s event in addition to check if the press showed any preference for one or another side of the conflict. Thanks to a content analysis, we will study for the last three days of June of 1914 the informative treatment that six Spanish newspapers gave to this attack that marked forever the European history.
