Using the categories of constellations, crimilegal order, and secrecy, it explains how interactions between politicians, entrepreneurs, and criminals shaped illegal social orders. The qualitative comparative methodology included process tracing in Volume 2 of the Final Report of the Commission for the Clarification of Truth. Six mechanisms associated with criminal governance were identified: elite alliances, drug trafficking, political power, land control, politics and crime, and paramilitarism, concluding that the relationship with criminality contributes to explaining the violence among the country.
