Resumo
En este artículo se analiza cómo la relación de Roma con los galos y su política expansionista en la Cisalpina fueron la causa primera detrás del tratado del Ebro, que buscaba evitar un posible conflicto en dos frentes y la unión entre púnicos y galos en tal eventualidad. Se argumentan las razones de índole estratégica y psicológica —el metus gallicus— que subyacen detrás del interés de Roma por asegurar la paz con Cartago mientras lidiaba con sus seculares enemigos septentrionales.
