Contemporary Reception of the Homeric Topics in the Seventh Art: The films by Guy Maddin and by Attieh and Garcia as mythological Tangences
Abstract
We analyze the films Keyhole (2011), by Guy Maddin, and H. (2014), by Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia, taking the point of view of the methodology of Myth Criticism for searching Homeric topics in both productions. A different conception of time (in the form of a loop and abduction, respectively) and the tangential perspective in mythological narratives (from the point of view of Telemachus and Helen of Troy in both films, and not by the principal characters) constitute two elements of the ironic contemporary approach to the themes of homeric epic.Downloads
