Propuesta de nuevo autor para «La pícara Justina»: fray Bartolomé Navarrete O.P. (1560-1640)
Abstract
The question of who wrote the novel La Pícara Justina has always aroused f ierce debate. The f irst edition stated that its author was a doctor from Toledo called Francisco López de Úbeda, but Nicolás Antonio made public a tradition which claimed that real author was a Dominican friar who had chosen to remain anonymous. Marcel Bataillon studied the question thoroughly, and the result of his labours was his f irm belief that he had proved the author to be López de Úbeda. His conclusion is generally accepted nowadays. However, a document has come to light in the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Valladolid which indicates that the author was, in fact, another Dominican: Fray Baltasar Navarrete, Professor of Theology at the University of Valladolid.Downloads
