Abstract

The question of the presence/absence of the subject in different Spanish constructions has attracted the attention of specialists for decades and continues to be a central issue of current research. However, few studies have thoroughly and systematically examined the causes involved in this phenomenon. The aim of this article is twofold. Firstly, it will offer a critical and rigorous analysis of the structures in which the expression of the subject alternates freely with omission. Secondly, it will provide a hypothesis that justifies this possibility.
