Unpublished “entremés” El boticario alcalde. Study and edition
Abstract
This article offers an edition of an 18th century anonymous “entremés”: El boticario alcalde. This version is preceded by a brief study that presents Ramón de la Cruz as its probable author, in addition to its literary analysis, as well as the cast and companies that could have represented it. As for the piece, it inherits the structure, the comical resources and some distinctive characters of 17th century “entremeses”, especially featuring the figure of the mayor. Its publication is, therefore, a new finding for the genre.
