Language and discourse in an Authority document of Spanish Golden Age: the "Pregón general para la buena gobernación desta Corte"
Abstract
These pages offer the description of a unique document of Spanish Golden Age, the Pregón para la buena gobernación desta corte, which contains the first municipal ordinances of the Villa and Court of Madrid, granted by King Felipe II. Firstly, the diplomatic structure, the title, the content of the text and some linguistic-textual features are reviewed, in contrast to the usual guidelines that are presented in other contemporary municipal ordinances. Secondly, a characteristic syntactic-semantic feature ‒although not exclusive‒ of the legal-administrative style is analyzed in detail, and specifically of the documents of a dispositive nature, which in this text is manifested in a striking way: the presence of binomials and enumerative series.
