Abstract

This paper is intended to analyze Pere Joan’s graphic adaptation from the novel Nocilla Experience, written by Agustín Fernández Mallo. Specifically, the interest of this study is to review the graphic resources that Joan uses to “solve” adaptation problems in non-narrative fragments of the novel (such as quotes from interviews and other sources in the text) and also in its “explanatory” extracts (understanding these as parts in which characters explain a theory, idea, project or certain situation, aside from narrative discourse). Taking into account the illustrator’s proposals, it’s intended to demonstrate that in adapting such fragments the artist uses iconic elements taken from instructives, security graphic schemes and others.

Furthermore, the intent of this paper is to valuate this adaptation as a re-writing of the original text, different from other less formally audacious versions. In the case of Nocilla Experience’s graphic adaptation new readings will be proposed, through the language comics, which enrich the original text and could echo in other graphic adaptations of literary works
