Abstract

The use of the media archive, as a repository of the production and reflection of the expertise of the media professionals, is presented as an enabler for the innovation of the media offer and the profitability of own resources under the premise of journalism as a service (JAAS). The use of the media archive in digital context that are being developed by public general radios in Spain and Portugal is analysed. These study cases are understood as examples that can also be profitable by the private sector. In both cases, the media archive is being used to complement the media offerings, but RTP goes one step further by creating thematic collections at the service of the citizen from the corporate archive. This case exemplifies innovation based on the history.
