Una mirada social al estigma de la enfermedad mental
Abstract
The mental illness still has a high social stigma that produces repulsion, and discrimination both from people who suffer from this kind of illness and from their relatives and friends. Social work has a lot to say to face this stigma.In this article, it expound theoretical considerations about the social processes that cause the stigma, the consequences that involve to the people, the necessity of incorporating the gender perspective and also the possibilities that social work offers to overcome this situation. Finally, it exposes a particular experience carried out with homeless and some suggestions for future professional interventions.
