Abstract

The way in which psychopathology remains captive to several different complementary and contradictory concepts of life, which have their origins in Modernity, contemporaneous with the birth of psychiatry, is described here. Life (without qualification) is then proposed as inherent to the objectivity of psychopathology, and pertinent conclusions concerning a theory of symptom individuation are drawn.
