Partner Violence Against Women: an Intersectional Case Study.
Abstract
The analysis of violence against women from an intersectionality approach, due to various confluent dominations, allows us to appreciate a complicated mechanism caused by the abuse of power, arising from concomitant or isolated variables, also encompassing those sectors with varied identities and structurally dependents, upon whom prejudiced and discriminatory actions are incurred. The objective of this study is to describe, through a case study, the consequences of violence against women in their relationship from an intersectional approach. A qualitative, non-experimental approach is assumed from a narrative perspective, based on carrying out a deep and extensive study of a case, focused on behaviors reported by the victim "his story", observable reactions or provoked in the course of the established relationship. with this in constant systematic conditions in order to understand and explain them in their particularities. The analysis carried out based on the results obtained makes it possible to affirm that the intersectionality approach allows us to understand that the experience of Caro and her family is shaped by a series of interconnected factors, including gender, violence against women, child abuse, poverty, racism, discrimination, illness. To effectively address her situation and that of many women like her, it is essential to consider and understand how these factors intertwine and affect them. The case under study shows the critical knots that exist in the route that women take in search of protection, the institutional disarticulation and the absence of comprehensive responses.
