The iron mining and metallurgy was a specialized activity in the La Cabeza hillfort (Huerta Abajo, Burgos, Spain)
Abstract
This article analyzes the possible dedication to mining-metallurgical works of the inhabitants of the Iron Age town of La Cabeza (Huerta de Abajo, Burgos), in which a small archaeological intervention has been carried out in the surroundings of the wall that delimits the hillfort. The study of the found materials allows us to assess the relationship between this settlement and the iron ore deposits that are located nearby, some of the most important in the Sierra de la Demanda, and to discuss its possible exploitation and benefit since the First Iron Age.
