Tartessus: past, present and future of a historical construction

Keywords: Tartessus, Protohistiry, Early Iron Age, classical sources, archaeology

Abstract

Tartessos is, undoubtedly, one of the most controversial topics in the History of the Iberian Peninsula. Its mention in classical sources and its subsequent identification with an archaeological culture have led to intense debate, which we can now update thanks to the latest developments in research. Thus, this work takes stock of the last two decades of scientific production (past), analysing the current state of research (present) and proposing a reflection (future) that will allow us to advance our knowledge.
