The Auleteres in Iberia. Woman and Transmission of Social Memory in the Iberic World (3rd-1st Century BC)
Abstract
This paper discusses the meaning of the auleteres repeatedly appearing on pre-Roman Iberian iconography between the late 3rd century BC and the early 2nd century BC. Those women –always depicted as young aristocrats– act as specialists in the intergenerational transmission of social memory, ethos and cultural patterns, within the framework of ritual scenes.
