The historic cemeteries management: Death as a dispute
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze the current management of historical cemeteries. The article focuses on the recent controversy caused by the archaeological excavation of a Jewish cemetery in Toledo. The exhumation of tombs saw the involvement of the international community in an issue that solely concerns the Spanish state and the particular local authorities to which the remains belong. This case study is one amongst many instances occurring in other Spanish cities as well as in the rest of Europe, and it illustrates the controversy surrounding the treatment of this type of remains.Downloads
