"La flauta travesera en las dos orillas". Una sonata de flauta de Luis Misón en México
Abstract
This article offers an overview of the baroque flute and its repertoire in Spain and New Spain during the mid-18th century, focusing on a flute sonata by Luis Misón found in a 1759 Mexican manuscript. New biographical information about Luis Misón offers the possibility of interpreting him from a different perspective. The music of this flute manuscript represents a microcosm of the variety of influences and generes which co-existed in México around this time, and helps to widen the scope of the secular chamber-music repertoire.
