María Teresa Prieto y Carlos Chávez: paradigma de la fructífera relación de México y España a mediados del siglo XX
Abstract
The arrival of exiled Spanish composers in Mexico was strongly endorsed by the composer and conductor Carlos Chávez, who supported Spanish artists by means of his policy of premiering contemporary music and promoting Mexican culture. Among the indirect members of the group that had formed around him, Nuestra Música, was the Asturian composer María Teresa Prieto. This article discusses Carlos Chávez’s musical relationship with María Teresa Prieto as a conductor and performer of her works, establishing two important periods in the composer’s orchestral output and considering the Mexican composer and conductor as a turning point in both the composition and promotion of her music.Downloads
