Abstract
The Ateneo Científico, Artístico y Literario of Madrid was one of the most important Spanish cultural institutions of the nineteenth century. So far, the musical activity of the Ateneo has been barely researched. The aim of this article is to study the presence of Music in the Ateneo during the last thirty years of the nineteenth century, paying attention to the period 1878-1907 in which Music acquired special importance in this institution.
