Urban image and photojournalism. An aesthetic review of deindustrialization
Abstract
This work addressed how photojournalism has captured and exposed the processes of deindustrialization and depopulation, transforming the perception of the coal basins of the northern peninsula. Through aesthetic studies and visual semiotics, the work of eight photojournalists who documented the region's transition towards landscapes marked by abandonment and ruin was reviewed. The results obtained evidenced how images of this nature generated changes in urban imaginaries, fostering dialectics of decline and nostalgia, but also of resistance and reflection. This work highlights the role of photojournalism in the construction of visual discourses on regional identity and urban transformation in the contemporary era.
