Residual representation of women in the Portuguese parliament

Abstract
This research analyzes the strategies of visibility achieved in the Portuguese press by female parliamentarians during the three political cycles of democracy for the period ranging from 1976 to 2002. The object of study is therefore twofold: on the one hand, the extent of representation that women reach in Parliament, the share achieved in each parliamentary group and the layout of the profile of the members in each political cycle and, on the other, the study of the representation that the Portuguese press makes of these politician women through the stereotypes that have shaped the public agenda. The results come from an analysis framed in a research project of the Centre for research Media & Jornalismo (CIMJ) of the University Nova of Lisbon d (PTDC/CCI_COM 7102393/2008).Downloads
