Quan s’és jove per fer bonic i quan s’és gran per no fer fàstic. Tocadores y lavamanos en la vivienda catalana de la época moderna
Abstract
In this article we propose to follow the main traits of the pieces of furniture that have been used for the personal beauty and upkeep for men and women in Catalonia during the modern period, as well as the decoration of the dressing room and its place in the house. Our information sources come from both the archives and the different furniture. We notice that the appearance of the ladies dressing table, an object of social importance, is adapted to the concept of luxury of the time. But we will also discuss the lesser known shaving table and the washing-stand, which is the piece of furniture for the washing of different areas of the body, that is used in the toilette but also in the dining room.Downloads
