Abstract

The present research analyses the ban of Chinese and Persian's silk by Spanish Monarchy in 1619. It had its origin in the petition of Murcia, which organize a lobby with the main silk’s cities. They brought discussion from the court to the Cortes in order to ban the Chinese and Persian silk’s imports. This measure should be seen in a wide consideration taking into account imperial dynamics, global commerce, guilds, and producers of silk. This problem would be situated also in the transformation of the global trade between 1590-1620.
