'Con disegno dato da Vespasiano Gonzaga'. The memory of noblemen fortress builders during the Renaissance
Abstract
The knowledge of mathematics and geometry by the soldier aristocracy at the service of the Hispanic monarchy leads us to figures whose names went down in history linked to some of the greatest defensive works on its frontiers. The words that open the title refer to the citadel of Pamplona and lead us to approach the figure of Vespasiano Gonzaga in a context in which we also deal with other noblemen experts in fortifications, whose memory was built on his input in the projects of famous works of military architecture.
