Abstract
This paper analyses the development, the organization and the structure of the household which was formed around Catherine of Austria, queen of Portugal between 1523 and 1526. The author considers the factional strife between the different groups of power in the Castilian and Portuguese courts, as well as the record of the officials of the household, as it agglutinated a group of power which exercised influence over different aspects of the social, political and economic life of the Portuguese kingdom, that developed its own line of action in the following decades of the sixteenth century.Downloads
