Abstract

Through the case study of the Álava family, this paper explores the social behavior of the Enlightened Basque families linked to the careers in the administration and in the army. With this study I want to stimulate a line of research that looks for a review of the Enlightened Basque family departing from Social History and applying new methodological elements such as Prosopography and Relational Studies. In this sense, this research departs from the analysis of the social origins of the Álava family and of the resources used for their social reproduction in order to establish solid methodological bases towards a new approach on the study of the Sociology of Power.
