Social media as an area of the rise of female sports. Case study on Twitter
Abstract
We understand sport as a mass phenomenon, although the female modality has seen its evolution hampered by gender stereotypes. However, in recent years, the idea of sport as a male domain has been dissipating and the rise of female sport and its athletes has been evident. The objective of this study is to analyse the growing interest of the public in this modality. The analysis will focus on Twitter, the current meter of popularity and the scope of phenomena. Thus, the followers of different profiles (female athletes, their clubs and even their national teams) will be studied and compared. The data extracted will help us to become more aware of how, when and why the rise of women's sports has occurred.
