Abstract
The female sport has experienced a huge growth in last few years, but the visibility on mass media is limited and stereotyped. This work focuses to analyze the female athletes and What they say about them on Twitter of sports media in Spain, including the general Media (@ElPais_Deportes y @ABC_Deportes) and specialised (@Marca and @MundoDeportivo) during the month of March in 2016. Of the 964 tweets analyzed, 3.84% tweets (N=37) had female protagonist, of which 54.05% (N=20) were about female athletes and 45.95% (N=17) about women not athletes. In addition, analyzing the content shows how it reinforces gender stereotypes. Therefore, the media´s differential coverage of men and women´s sport is confirmed on Twitter, the results show that for women there are almost the same possibilities of being the protagonist of news in sports media for their sporting performance or for other reasons not in relation with sport.
