Author Guidelines

Submisssion guidelines

Authors who send their original research articles to the journal Comunicación y Género can do so through the OJS platform which can be accessed from the menu on the left (if they are sent by email they will be requested to be uploaded to the platform). The Journal Comunicación y Género will accept for evaluation those articles that meet the following conditions.

Please follow these guidelines to ensure your paper is reviewed. Papers that are not prepared according to these formatting instructions will NOT be reviewed.

  • Manuscripts must be original.
  • Manuscripts can be submitted in Spanish or English.
  • Papers should be between 30,000 and 50,000 characters (with spaces), including tables, notes, and references.

Once the text has been received, the Secretariat will acknowledge receipt within one month.

In case the article is written by several authors, it will be specified who individually assumes the relationship with the Journal, taking responsibility for the article. All authors must be included within the OJS platform, even if only one person is responsible for the correspondence. These data should be as complete as possible, including at least always Name, Surname, University, e-mail.

Manuscripts will be submitted for double blind peer review. Please remove all material from the manuscript that identifies you. Your submission should be blinded, meaning there is no clear way for reviewers to identify you as the author. All references to your own work should be cited in the third person.

All the articles will be submitted to an anonymous evaluation process by the external blind peer system, outside both the Editorial Board and the Ediciones Complutense team.

The review process consists of the following steps: Firstly, an initial editorial review of the articles admitted will be carried out to assess their thematic suitability for the journal and their compliance with the requirements of academic rigour. Next, the manuscripts will be anonymously reviewed by the double-blind peer review system, each manuscript being reviewed by at least two different people. Neither authors or reviewers know at any time the identity of the other and we will always guarantee the fulfillment of our ethical commitment. In the case of disparate judgments between the reviewers, the articles will be sent to a third person.

At the end of the review process, the Editorial Committee will report on the possible publication of the selected articles, which is conditional on the introduction of any changes. Communications with the authors will be motivated, not exceeding the notice of acceptance or rejection after six months from the date of receipt.

The authors, in turn, commit themselves to correct their works within a short period of time (10 days), from the moment they are informed of the decision, in order to respect and not delay the editorial process of the printed issue. Please note that changes are highlighted in yellow

Submitting an article for possible publication in the journal implies the transfer of all rights derived from the article, as well as the acceptance of the editorial rules.

The language used in all manuscripts must be non-discriminatory. Sexist or racist terms will not be admitted.

References

The journal adopts the so-called Harvard style citation system, i.e., the citations are included in the text and are in author and date format, and the bibliographical references appear at the end of the document in the form of a list ordered by author and year of publication.
In accordance with this generic format, bibliographic citations appear only in the body of the text, and only exceptionally in footnotes, in which case they can only contain additional text, never complete bibliographic references.

Each of the bibliographic citations must correspond to a reference in the final bibliography.

Literal citations longer than three lines must be inserted in the text with a differentiated character from the general body of the article, in a Times New Roman 10 pt. font, with left and right indentation of 1 cm and 1.5 line spacing.

For a detailed description and examples of the format of quotations adopted, we suggest consulting the instructions provided on the page of the Library of the Complutense University of Madrid: http://biblioteca.ucm.es/cps/recursos-para-tfg-tfm-citas-y-referencias-bibliograficas.

In order to make women's contributions to research visible, the full name of the author(s) should be included in each reference in the REFERENCES section.

Structure

1. Title in Spanish and English, Abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 500-800 characters) and Keywords in Spanish and English (maximum five).

3.- The development of the article (IMRC), which includes: Introduction, "State of the art", Methodology, Results (the different Sections in which the content is structured, with their corresponding subdivisions), as well as the Conclusions.

4.- Notes, if for exceptional circumstances it is considered necessary to include them, in accordance with the format and content addresses expressed above.

5.- Relevant Bibliographical References, in the indicated format.

Rules for reviews

The review is a short text (maximum 1200 words recommended) containing the summary and the evaluative commentary on a book, an article, an audiovisual or other text/event in the audiovisual field published with relevance to the subject matter of the journal. The reviewer's opinion may include positive aspects that can be improved, depending on his/her personal criteria. The data of the author of the review are accompanied by the email or other form of electronic contact that may encourage further comment.

Standard structure of the review:

1. CONTEXTUAL PRESENTATION: Title of the book reviewed in Spanish and English; Author(s) [or publishers], place, publisher, year, pages; ISBN (hard/softcover). Location of the author and the text being commented on in time and space. The original language of the work and name of the translator, if applicable. If the review is about an audiovisual medium (films, programs...) then the title, director and other elements that identify the subject matter are indicated. Description of the nature of the book or audiovisual (if it is academic, teaching material, research work, etc.), how it is divided (in chapters, for example), and whether it contains a bibliography, graphics, or any other type of illustration.
2. SUMMARY (in Spanish and English): Summary and synthesis of the book and its main points. It talks about the author (background) and his techniques or working method; the sources cited (its actuality, relevance, approach, novelty...); the purpose (objectives and goals) of the text and its main contributions. It is also important to define the target audience (researchers, professionals, students, teachers, etc.) and the interest that this book has for that audience. This is done in a descriptive, brief, and clear manner. If bibliographic references are made, they should be in line with the style of the journal.
3. VALUATION: The successes and limitations, the strong and weak aspects of the book are highlighted. It is valued if the book is innovative or offers known material with a new approach. It will be analyzed if the author has achieved what the book presents as its main objective. The aspects that can be improved are described in a mitigated way, avoiding the use of strong words, ironies, and disparagement of the content. The positive aspects concentrate on the contributions to the scientific progress contained in the text including possible suggestions for improvement or future lines of research. The use of adjectives is key to making the wording of this section specific, clear, and concise.
4. PERSONAL INFORMATION OF THE AUTHOR OF THE REVIEW: Reviewed by Name and Surname; Position and Title; University of xxx (Country); Email.
