Ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI)

The use of artificial intelligence in articles submitted to the journal Cuadernos de Filolología Italiana must comply with the following principles:

1. Ethics

  • AI must be used exclusively as a support tool for auxiliary tasks, such as:
  • Processing, organisation or analysis of data provided by the authors (e.g., elaboration of graphs, Excel tables or concept maps).
  • Translation of the original text into other languages, always ensuring the correct citation of the original source if it is not a text owned by the author.
  • Proofreading of the text provided by the author, provided that it does not involve paraphrasing the work of other researchers.
  • The use of AI to generate original content, whether in the form of text, images, graphics or data not originating from the author, is prohibited. All content must originate from the direct work of the authors.
  • The use of AI to interpret or transform information that is not the property of the author is prohibited, avoiding any possibility of misappropriation of data or data that is not the property of the author.

2. Transparency

  • Authors are obliged to declare the use of AI when it has been used to:
  • Analyse numerical or statistical data.
  • Generate visual representations (graphs, tables, concept maps) based on data provided by the author.
  • Additional processes that may generate confusion about the authorship of results or interpretations.
  • It is not necessary to declare the use of AI tools for translation or style correction, as long as they are limited to the ethical use described in section 1 of this document.

3. Traceability

  • AI should be used only as a support tool and not as a substitute for the author's intellectual work.
  • In cases where AI is used to process or analyse data, authors must provide a separate document with clear records of:
  • What data were entered into the tool.
  • What instructions or prompts were used to generate results.
  • What results were obtained and how they were integrated into the work.
  • Importance of the records: These records are essential to ensure that:
  • The process is replicable, which reinforces the validity of the results.
  • It can be demonstrated that the data comes from the author and is not externally generated by the AI.
  • The integrity of academic work and clarity of authorship is preserved.

4. Declaration of compliance

  • Each submission must include a declaration signed by the authors certifying:
  • That AI has been used exclusively as a support tool, in accordance with the journal's guidelines.
  • That no content has been generated by AI and that all data or text comes from the author's own work.
  • Articles that do not comply with this policy will be automatically rejected.
