Antonio Cammelli: A Pistoiese in Milan?

Keywords: Antonio Cammelli, encomiastic poetry, Ludovico il Moro, Italian wars

Abstract

The article studies the poetic work of Antonio Cammelli (called il Pistoia) and tries to establish the writer’s relations with Ludovico il Moro and Milanese intellectuals. This overview shows a strong literary and ideological tension towards the Ludovician lordship and a perspicuous desire for social affirmation and public consent. Cammelli’s corpus also gives us back the complexity of courtesan dynamics and outlines a series, sometimes unprejudiced and ambiguous, of encomiastc tactics put in place to support Moro’s political and diplomatic strategies.
