Otherness/Alterity in «I Dinosauri» of Le Cosmicomiche by Italo Calvino
Abstract
The theme of the Other (i.e. the alienor, the different) has always generated a more or less severe conflict in the history of mankind and there have been few proposals to its resolution. In the sense that The Other questions by similarity or difference the identity in which the subject is supported. This questioning disrupts this precarious construction, and for that reason the stranger becomes an enemy, an opponent, a rival or an undesirable, deppending on the position where it is located. In this study the Otherness/Alterity is searched in the text «I Dinosauri» included in Italo Calvino’s work Le Cosmicomiche, analyzing the reactions and behaviour of the main character «the Other», i.e. «the Stranger», and of the members of the community of «Equals» to which he arrives.Downloads
