Abstract

This contribution presents a study of the earliest linguistic contact of the Greek and Egyptian languages and the first loanwords found in Greek literature. In order to locate this linguistic contact, I propose a stage for the lexical borrowing in the commercial exchange both in the Greek colonies in Egypt and in other Greek Mediterranean harbors, such as Piraeus and Halicarnassos in the Classical period.
