Historical and literary issues regarding a new Spanish multilingual edition of the Pseudo Clementine Writings
Abstract
The multilingual Spanish edition (Latin-Greek-Syriac [literal translation]-Spanish) of the Pseudo-Clementine Literature raises numerous problems. Some of them and their possible outcomes are discussed. 1. Which text, of the two existing Greek and Latin recensions, should be given priority? 2. The importance of the Clementines for the history of Judaism and Christianity. 3. The literary-historical problem of the Clementines. 4. On H in general. 5. On the orthodoxy of R. 6. The relation of H to R. 7. The author of each recension. 8. Direct sources for the speeches of Peter and others, such as Simon Magus. 9. The figure of Paul. 10. The community behind the Clementines. 11. Rufinu's version.
