Notes on Aristophanes "Lysistrata"

Keywords: Aristophanes, Lysistrata, autochthony.

Abstract

§1.The epithet ἁλυκός of Poseidon (v. 403) is a result of the inmediate context. The hemichorus of soaking old men say they have had to shake their cloaks ὥσπερ ἐνευρηκότας. §2. In the αὐτόχθονας of line 1082, as in Vesp. 1076, there is an ironic reference to myth of Athenian autochthony. ‘Autochthonous’ should be kept in the version and it should be explained in footnote. §3. In v. 1089 σπασμός does not mean ‘convulsion’ but ‘jerk’.§4. The participle in ταυτὶ δρῶντες (V. 1090) is not tantamount to πάσχοντες. It means “doing so”, which explicitly refers to an obscene gesture (cf. the deictic particle -ί).
