Pre-Darwinian transhumanism? Strong and weak normativity in the transhumanist perspective
Abstract
In this article I will analyse some points of convergence between transhumanist philosophy and contemporary philosophical criticism of anthropocentrism. For this I will distinguish between a type of strong and weak (or moderate) normative program in transhumanism. The central argument is that the strong normativity in the transhumanist discourse, assuming that it is possible to select exclusively the "properly human" characteristics to be conserved in the post-human stage, is based on a pre-Darwinian conception of the human species, which has ethical and epistemological implications.
