Author Guidelines

Author guidelines

1. Paper submission

Articles will be sent through the OJS online platform, which can be accessed at https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/ARTE/login. Once you have registered as an author, you must follow the steps indicated there (see Instructions for Authors). If you have any questions regarding the submission of papers, please contact us (revista.arteterapia@edu.ucm.es).

2. Format of the files

Articles submitted to the Editorial Board should be original and unpublished and not be in the process of being revised or published by any other means. They will be written in English, Spanish or French. The accepted formats of the file sent are OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF.

Length: between 6,000 and 7,500 words (including abstract-abstract, keywords, notes and bibliography). The document must be paginated and justified. The name of the author or authors or any reference to them will not be included in the text of the article. Translations into other languages must be reviewed.

2.1. Paper structure

  1. Title: in Spanish and in English
  2. Abstract in Spanish and English: between 150 and 300 words.
  3. Keywords in Spanish and English. 4 or 5 key words will be included.
  4. Summary
  5. Headings and sections. The article should be structured in sections. Sections and sub-sections of the text will be numbered with Arabic numerals, starting with number 1. Notes will be numbered consecutively and their text will be collected at the foot of the corresponding page.
  6. Bibliographical references. At the end of the text, bibliographical references will be included following the APA international style model (www.apastyle.org). All bibliographical references included in the text should appear in this section.

If the work has been carried out with financial support (grants, projects...), this should be indicated on the first page, in a footnote in the title.

If there are any annexes, these will be at the end of the work and may not exceed 10% of the length of the work in number of pages. They may include documents that act as sources of information for the papers, tables, statistics, graphs, chronological tables, maps, plans or other illustrations.

2.2. Images

Images (maximum 6 per article) will be sent in JPG format (minimum 300 dpi) in files independent of the text, indicating in the text their location by means of a small written sign or numbering (Example: Fig. 1. Title or brief explanatory text). The author is responsible for the use made of the images and must indicate the author of the image or the origin of the same. The journal reserves the right to modify the size of the images if necessary for their correct publication, respecting as far as possible the original format of the author.

Schemes, drawings, graphs or tables must also be of sufficient quality for direct reproduction. They should be numbered consecutively according to type (table, graph, etc.) and inserted in the appropriate place within the body of the text of the article. They will be presented in black and white or grey scale. They will all have their corresponding title in Arabic numerals, with a font size of 10 points, and will be referenced in the text.

2.3. Citations and references

Citations and bibliographical references (minimum ten) will be in accordance with APA standards.

2.4. Presentation

Top and bottom margins of 2.5 cm, and left and right margins of 3 cm. Times New Roman with a font size of 12 points (10 for notes and 11 for long quotes) and 1.5 spacing.

3. Reviews

The maximum length of the reviews will be 1,000 words. Reviews will be evaluated by the Editorial Board.

Any review published in this section should reflect the level of importance of the book or event, its timeliness and how it may be useful to researchers or professionals in the field. The author of the review can choose the structure he or she considers most appropriate (e.g. commentary by chapter, by thematic block, etc.). The heading of the review must include the details of the author of the book (according to APA standards), while the name of the author who wrote it will appear on the last page of the review.

4. Evaluation process

An initial review of the work will be carried out by the Editorial Board and, if the basic conditions are met, the author will be notified of receipt. Once it has been checked that the article meets the thematic and formal requirements, the evaluation process will be initiated by the double-blind system, through two reviewers.

The evaluators can determine:

  1. a) that the article will be published as it is (or with minor formal modifications);
  2. b) that it can be published after certain substantive and/or presentational corrections and improvements have been made;
  3. c) that it cannot be published due to content and/or editorial problems that cannot be remedied in a short period of time.

In the event of a discrepancy between the results, the article will be sent to a third evaluator, who will ultimately decide. The results of the evaluation process will be unappealable in all cases.

The time that passes between acknowledgement of receipt and first evaluation is around 4 months, during which the author will receive the reports issued by the evaluators, with suggestions –if there are any– and will be required to carry them out within 15 days.

The authors of the works accepted for publication will receive the print proof prior to publication, in order to correct any typing or grammatical errors. No changes affecting the content of the article will be accepted at this stage. Corrected proofs must be returned within a maximum of 8 days to the Journal's Management.

The acceptance of a work for publication implies that the copyright in any medium and by any means is transferred to the editor of the journal.
