Code of good practices concerning gender

Anaquel de Estudios Árabes journal is committed to gender policies that promote real equality between women and men in our society. This commitment is implemented through the following actions:

Editorial participation
The journal will take measures to ensure a balanced editorial composition of women and men, both in the composition of different bodies within the journal and in the participation of individuals who evaluate the works. In both cases, Anaquel has a percentage of women exceeding 40%.

Use of inclusive language
Anaquel recommends the use of inclusive language in scientific articles that aligns with the full and equitable participation of women in society and the principle of gender equality. In this regard, Anaquel's style guidelines include specific recommendations for the use of inclusive language (https://revistas.ucm.es/index.php/ANQE/about/submissions) in the articles and works published.

For more detailed alternatives and usage proposals, it is recommended to consult the Equality Unit of the United Nations website section on gender-inclusive language (https://www.un.org/en/gender-inclusive-language/).

Sex and gender in research
Research works should avoid stereotypes and gender biases that consider masculinity as a universal reference, exaggerate biological differences, or naturalize socially constructed differences. Additionally, they should consider the sex variable in any type of research involving individuals, animals, tissues, or cells. This includes:
Reflecting upon and making informed decisions on the composition of samples by sex and reporting the sex of the subjects being studied.
Analyzing the existing differences within each sex and presenting the results disaggregated by sex.
Specifying the proper names of bibliographic references to highlight gender in research.
